This has a history of being a confirmed tornado that has done considerable damage. Anywhere in the polygon, get to shelter and stay there.
2:08 AM - Now the most likely track of this tornado is from Centerville up toward Fairview.
However, anywhere in this polygon, you need to be sheltered. Tornadoes can change direction quickly, and radar is not perfect. Besides, this whole storm is dangerous, not just the tornado.
So Nunnelly, Bon Aqua Junction, up to Leiper's Fork, and all the way down to the far Southeast edge of this polygon, places like Spring Hill and Thompson's Station, you need to take shelter. And stay there until you are sure you're in the clear.
Because this is a particularly dangerous situation, and it's the middle of the night.
If you know somebody in the path who is not aware of this, give them a call and make sure they have time to get to shelter. This storm has a history.
In your shelter, use something to shield your body from the potential of falling or flying debris. Pillows or blankets are good, but the best may be a safety helmet like a football or bike or batting helmet.
Some people might have a small mattress to pull over themselves.
And if you're in a basement, consider making sure you're away from any windows, see if you can be up under something sturdy just in case of debris falling from upstairs - could be stairs, a table, desk, or something as simple as a workbench. But on a night like this, every little bit can help. Take the best precautions you can. This is a supercell thunderstorm with a history of producing tornado damage. And radar is showing us some clues that this is still on the ground, still a damaging tornado.
2:15 - This is from NWS Nashville. Shows you where it is in relation to Nashville.
2:23 - The storm will be to Fairview in less than 10 minutes. People in Leiper's Fork also need to be sheltered.
They're no longer seeing a radar confirmation of a tornado, but with a situation like this, I'd stay sheltered. Don't risk it. Supercells cycle up and down all the time. And tornadoes are tough to confirm at night anyway, even in the dual-pol era.
And if you're on the edge of the polygon, the tornado might miss you, but I'd stay sheltered as a better safe than sorry approach. This has a history of producing significant tornado damage. And there is a lot of large hail in this storm, often a sign of a tornado nearby. And it's just a dangerous storm regardless of the exact track of a tornado funnel.
2:27 - Looks like it is headed for Fairview and maybe eventually move up toward Nashville. But for now, anywhere in this polygon, wouldn't be a bad idea to stay in your shelter until we're sure the danger is past.
2:29 - Another storm with a history of producing a significant tornado is passing through Hardin, McNairy, Henderson, and a few nearby counties, on a similar track that will take it North of Savannah.
So this is coming up behind this other supercell. It is also considered a PDS warning - Particularly Dangerous Situation.
2:37 - The new Tornado Warning does include Nashville.
2:39 - This sucker is moving Northeast at 70 mph. And it's showing a little bit of a hook echo again now. So folks from Franklin to Brentwood all the way up to Nashville, communities near there, get to shelter and stay there. Take this seriously. Right now we're tracking it on radar, but this storm has a history of tornado damage earlier when it was still near the border of Mississippi.
Call people and let them know this is coming. If this thing is still on the ground, these are some populated areas where it'll affect a lot of people. Even if we were to luck out and the rotation has lifted up in the air for a while, it's a very dangerous storm. But this storm may still be producing a tornado. And you can't take chances with a supercell storm like this with such a history, especially not when it's headed toward a metropolitan area. There are too many people in the path. Gotta' play this one safe.
2:46 - This is most likely to affect Forest Hills and Brentwood. But anywhere in this polygon, stay sheltered. Definitely stay sheltered in the city of Nashville for this.
Here is the latest updated polygon. Anywhere in here, stay sheltered.
