Tornado Warning (Observed - TN)

Very clear indications of a tornado here including debris on radar. Anywhere in this polygon, get into a safe shelter and protect your body from debris, especially your head.

6:20 PM - This is mainly coming up on Mount Pleasant, Columbia, but people in Culleoka on the Eastern edge of the polygon should also play it safe and be sheltered.

6:24 - This correlation coefficient product on the radar gives us a good estimate of where this tornado is. The lowering in the colors shows debris being lofted into the upper atmosphere, stuff bigger than raindrops.

6:28 - Radar gives us an idea of where the tornado is, but anywhere in the polygon, it's a good idea to stay sheltered. This is a dangerous supercell thunderstorm. And take your best precautions if in the actual path of the tornado itself of course.

6:35 - It now looks like the tornado may end up passing South of Columbia and affect places more like Colleuka and Bryant Springs. Still to be on the safe side, folks in Columbia I'd stay sheltered for now until we're sure what this storm is going to do.

Not showing the CC product because the debris signature is not there anymore, not clearly defined, just a lot of messy, noisy data. But people still need to respect this warning and realize this storm has a history of producing a tornado.

6:44 - The tornado track appears to be going for Colleuka and Bryant Springs.

6:45 - Emergency manager reports at approximately 6:06 PM CDT in Lawrence County (TN) near Summertown a tree down across Chief Creek Road. Power flashes and outages reported too - possible tornado.

6:47 - The tornado is clearly staying South of Columbia and is an issue for Colleuka.

6:48 - Taking the wide view, we have a severe thunderstorm affecting Waynesboro and another up there affecting places like Brentwood.

6:51 - And that Tornado Warning has been extended into Northern Marshall County all the way up to Chapel Hill.

7:05 PM - All right, I usually make an effort to keep my personal feelings off this blog, but this evening I'm going to say I am VERY GLAD to be able to report that the Tornado Warning has been cancelled, as the storm has weakened some, and so has the Severe Thunderstorm Warning that was in effect back in Wayne County.

However, a severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 7:30 PM CDT for that storm East of Columbia. It's mainly expected to produce 60 mph wind gusts and maybe quarter-sized hail. But with a note that it's still showing rotation at times, and the environment would favor a tornado spinning up quickly. So if in this polygon, it would be wise to stay in a good safe place until the storm passes.

And with that, I'm hanging up my coverage for this evening. Which was unplanned anyway.

Only popping back on here if my weather radio were to go off for something. And I'm not sure what channel I'm going to tune to. But my cats turned on the broadcast when I'd set it to the Arab transmitter, Channel 6, and it is fuzzy as can be. So I may be switching back to Oneonta or if there's another channel that is clearer.

The Tornado Watch goes until 10 PM CDT for most of Tennessee, certainly the Central and Southern Counties. So folks up there might want to be vigilant. Hopefully after about 10 PM tonight things start to calm down. And no severe weather is expected around here tomorrow. Arkansas gets the short straw tomorrow, and I honestly dread seeing what happens out there. The chance of tornadoes is significant, and some places may see a lot of damage.

Anyway here's my latest forecast, which was only made a few hours ago. I think it still holds up.
