Tornado Warning Includes Ardmore

This storm produced a confirmed tornado back in East Mississippi and also near Barton, just Southwest of Florence, earlier. So up to Elkmont and Ardmore, I'd respect the warning polygon and take this seriously, be in your tornado shelter. It's better if you can shield your body, especially protect your head, in case of debris.

11:06 PM - Okay, the National Weather Service mentions that this has produced a good bit of damage in Colbert County. Can wait on those details, but that confirms it for me. I don't like to pass along just rumors of damage.

11:08 - Giles and Lawrence Counties on the TN side have been added to a Tornado Warning now. Includes the city of Pulaski.

11:10 - From Five Points to Minor Hill over to Elkton, up to Frankewing and Pulaski, also Ardmore of course, need to be sheltered for this. It's late at night. You're not going to see a tornado coming at you. Have to respect the warning of time.

Ryan Hall is doing a pretty good job of covering this. And I was about to link to his live stream, but I see that James Spann is on. And I haven't linked to his live streaming tonight. He's as good as it gets. So I'll link to his.

11:15 - Bethel, Elkmont, Ardmore, Elkton - stay in shelter as this storm approaches you. It has a history of producing a tornado with damage.

And of course if you're not in the polygon, like back in the Shoals and Lauderdale/Colbert County, or in Southern parts of Limestone County like Athens, if you're not in the path of this storm, you don't need to be in shelter. Sometimes I have to remember to tell people when they're in the clear. Tend to focus on who's next in the path. Like get rid of the danger first, and then look at everything else.

11:19 - The rotation is not looking as impressive now. The storm could be weakening, but those weakening phases can be short-lived. And another thing, this is not the best area of radar coverage. It's in between the Columbus and Hytop radars. And I'd respect this warning polygon and stay in a safe place, don't take chances with this.

11:22 - Okay, NWS Huntsville advises that this tornado has been confirmed again by emergency management. It is coming up toward Ardmore. People in the path, go through your tornado safety plan and STAY in that safe place. Protect your body, especially your head, in case of debris. This tornado has had a long track.

11:25 - Now WHNT-19 is also doing a live stream. I forget if her name is Danielle Dozier or Danielle Breezy. I get them confused sometimes. But glad she's on top of this. I think Danielle Breezy is the lady in Nashville that Trisha Yearwood gave a social media shout-out to lately.

Ah, yes, it is Danielle Dozier on Channel 19 these days.

11:28 - And here's a radar update as this tornado continues its trek through the warning polygon.

And this thing is actually starting to show a hook echo.

11:30 - And we have a new Tornado Warning that includes Fayetteville, TN. It clips Northern Madison County but is well North of Huntsville and even places like Harvest and New Market. So if you're waking up in Huntsville from a cell phone alert or weather radio, you are not in the path of this tornado. You can stay up and watch the weather if you like, but no need to take shelter.

11:33 - The tornado is about to cross I-65. The people who do need to take shelter are from Elkmont, Ardmore, polygon clips places like Plexna and northern part of Hazel Green. But definitely Taft, Flintville, Park City, Fayetteville, all the way up to Lynchburg. Anywhere in this polygon, please respect the history of this storm - produced a confirmed tornado several times and some damage. Stay in your safe place and protect your body from debris, especially your head.

It sounds like mainly tree damage so far, have not learned of any structural damage. But any tornado is dangerous. And if a storm is strong enough to blow a tree over on a house, that's still worth taking cover for. It doesn't have to be taking everything in its path to be dangerous. Frankly I'd rather see a situation like this than something like Lake City, Arkansas had the other day. Or Selmer, TN. But any tornado is a life-threatening situation if people don't know about it and take reasonable precautions.

11:38 - Note from NWS Huntsville, there is now more than one circulation in this polygon showing signs of a possible tornado. So either one of them is a good enough reason to stay sheltered.

11:43 - WAAY-31 also streaming now.

11:45 - And this storm is out of Limestone County now. The focus is on Moore and Franklin Counties in TN.

11:49 - Note from SPC that our Tornado Watch threat continues with this squall line and that watch may need to be extended or a new one may be required later in the night/early morning hours.
