Tornado Watch

So our long night is getting underway now.

11:18 PM - The main storm of concern right now earlier had confirmed tornado damage in Humphreys County, TN and has recently knocked a lot of power out in Fairview. It is headed for Franklin, TN now. Everybody in the path, please get to a small central room on the lowest floor of a sturdy house (NOT a mobile home), away from windows. And protect your body from debris that might fall or go flying around, especially protect your head the best you can.

11:21 - There is another possible tornado moving through Linden in Perry County, TN. Moving into an environment favorable for supercells and tornadoes tonight.

11:24 - Emergency management reports multiple trees down on Highway 100 East near the Williamson County line near Fairview. So at the very least, we've got some major severe thunderstorm wind damage going on. But I think we've still got a tornado going on here. And that this warning will verify. It may very well hit the city of Franklin. It is nearly there.

11:27 - Here is a radar update.

Anywhere in those severe thunderstorm warning polygons, I'd go ahead and go to a reasonably safe place in your home too, at least away from windows. Because these winds are fierce at times within the squall line, could be gusting up to 70 miles per hour.

11:30 - Here is more of the broad view. But we do have a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that includes Northern Wayne County now. Storms around there need to be watched extra closely, as it has appeared to be a hot zone for tornado development, looking at things this evening and also looking at things last night.

11:37 - Nonetheless, the Tornado Warning for Perry County has been cancelled.

11:39 - Rotation has weakened some as the possible tornado is moving through Franklin. I would still respect the warning and stay in a good safe place. Especially since these storms can cycle up and down quickly.

11:42 - That Tornado Warning has been extended now into Rutherford County, affecting communities from Smyrna all the way East to Murfreesboro.

People from Franklin to Nolensville to Brentwood to Walterhill to Triune also need to be sheltered from this. They are giving plenty of lead time, and this supercell embedded in the squall line has a history of producing damage, some to trees and power lines, but also took the roof off a house back in Humphreys County earlier.

11:51 - A little surprised some of these storms closer to home are not trying to produce tornadoes. We do have one affecting Tippah, Benton, and Alcorn Counties back in Northern Mississippi. I remember the town of Ashland is in that polygon.

But for the most part these are damaging straight-line winds in this squall line. In fact we just got a new polygon that includes Lawrence and Giles Counties in Southern Middle Tennessee. It's for the Northern parts of those counties.

And there is a Severe Thunderstorm polygon that includes places like Savannah, Corinth, and Booneville, just West of the Alabama state line. So it's movin' on in.

11:56 - And emergency management from Williamson County, TN reports a fire at a substation and over 700 power outages in the area. Looks like the fire is near Highway 100/Pinewood.

Midnight - Got another possible tornado aiming at Columbia now in Maury County. That rotation spun up quickly within this larger area of possibly damaging thunderstorm winds. It can happen quick in a squall line.

And there was a public report of ping-pong sized hail from Franklin, TN.

12:04 AM - Waynesboro and Lawrenceburg are included in a Severe Thunderstorm Warning now.

12:19 - As the storms approach Northwest Alabama, for now NWS Huntsville is issuing a Special Weather Statement including Waterloo for wind gusts up to 50 mph, which is just under severe criteria.
