Tornado Warning

This tornado has been confirmed earlier. Take shelter right away. 

Places like Parrish, Sipsey, Cordova, Sumiton, and Dora - need to be in a safe place - small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy house - NOT a mobile home. And cover your body, especially protect your head, in that shelter place. This is the kind of storm today that could produce significant damage and be a threat to life. 

4:32 PM - Cullman and Blount County people, be monitoring this storm closely, especially along and near the county line. 

4:38 - And we have a new Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, and Lawrence Counties in NW AL. Could see 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. And there is a low risk of a tornado spinning up in this storm cluster. 

Mainly going to focus on our confirmed tornado moving through Walker County but can glance back at other stuff. 

4:42 - Folks in Colony, Smoke Rise, Bremen, Dodge City, be watching this storm coming from Walker County that has earlier produced a confirmed tornado. This is the kind of storm that can hang together. 

4:44 - This tornado knocked down large trees on AL-69 just South of the Walker/Tuscaloosa County line earlier.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...

  Eastern Walker County in central Alabama...

* Until 515 PM CDT.

* At 420 PM CDT, a tornado producing storm was located near Bankhead

  Lock And Dam, or 20 miles southwest of Cordova, moving northeast at

  45 mph.

  HAZARD...Damaging tornado.

  SOURCE...Radar confirmed tornado.

  IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without 

           shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. 

           Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree 

           damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include...

  Goodsprings, Barney, Gorgas Steam Plant, Empire, Rocky Hollow,

  Sumiton, Burnwell, Beloit, Quinton, Sipsey, Gorgas, The Wye,

  Powellville, Tutwiler, Parrish, Dora, Boldo, Cordova, Lynns Park,

  and Jasper.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

To repeat, a tornado is on the ground. TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a

basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy

building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in

a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect

yourself from flying debris.
