Lynn, Nauvoo, Carbon Hill, and the city of Jasper are now in line for damaging winds and large hail. The hail is estimated to be about the size of half dollars. Winds could gust to about 60 mph.
9:20 PM - And since we've got a couple other warnings to the West, here is sort of the broad view. So that's Northern Lamar, Southeastern Marion, Southern Winston, and about the Northern half of Walker County all under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning right now.
At minimum be inside away from windows and electrical stuff. If you want to be really safe, get into a small central room or hallway on the lowest floor of a sturdy house or other strong building.
And incidentally the Wind Advisory is cancelled as there is no longer concern for high winds outside of specific thunderstorms.
9:23 - And here's the Spanish version of that latest polygon.
It is well South of Double Springs and Haleyville, and the severe thunderstorms is even South of Natural Bridge or places like Arley, they are not included in this warning.
So I guess once again I have to admit that polygon-based warnings were an improvement after all.
Actually they called them storm-based warnings instead of county-based, when they originally changed it, I think.
9:29 - Oh wow, and the public reported golfball-sized hail near Tucker in Marion County about 30 minutes ago. So these warnings are verifying in several instances. I remembered a wind damage report of a tree or two down in Northwest Alabama earlier too. But definitely the hail is verifying. Should take these warnings seriously tonight.
I really wish people would do that anyway, but usually they kind of blow it off until they hear something has been confirmed. Sometimes I do that myself, because frankly, sheltering with two cats that don't like each other can get kinda' awkward . . . and I always hope I don't need to during any given severe weather event.
9:34 - And here's a closeup view of that storm entering Walker County. That storm is now moving through Nauvoo and Carbon Hill. Those are pretty rural areas, and there are a lot of trees. So people need to be careful as these blow through.
9:38 - And we have severe thunderstorm warnings just lined up all the way back into Mississippi. So Brilliant, Winfield, Detroit, Sulligent, and nearby communities, stay in a good safe place while these storms blow through. This bunch of storms has moved well East of Amory and Aberdeen, MS.

9:54 - Thanks to Wes Wyatt for sharing these pictures confirming the large hail in Guin with these storms. Looks like ping-pong to golfball-sized to me, but sometimes it's hard to tell with these amateur pictures at night.
9:57 - And those storms are all moving along in that same corridor for right now, the severe stuff. Got some passing North of Jasper, then coming through Sulligent and Winfield behind that.
