Flash Flood Warning

Anybody going in to work the morning shift at a grocery store, restaurant or whatever, please be careful and don't drive into any water that covers a roadway. If you see water covering the road, stop and turn around. This flooding has been confirmed by local emergency management, is not just indicated by radar like it is some other times.

6:29 - The severe thunderstorm warning for Madison County has been cancelled. And at least some of the rest of our counties have had the Tornado Watch cancelled. This morning round for severe thunderstorms is over.

It's this afternoon and evening that we'll have to watch for a significant threat of supercell thunderstorms capable of producing long-tracked, damaging tornadoes.

6:32 - But I don't like to jump the gun. In case there is a good reason for keeping some counties in North AL and Southern Mid TN under the watch, I guess I'll hang out here as long as it is in effect.

And here is the latest from the Weather Service in Huntsville. The storms are just under severe limits as far as wind gusts, and the main thing is just heavy rain and lots of lightning. Central Cullman County is having some issues with flash flooding. And some people do have to drive in to work early on Saturday mornings. So be careful out there if you do.

The main severe weather threat is this afternoon and evening, when we have a significant threat for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. It could turn out to be a really dangerous outbreak, much (MUCH) more dangerous than any of these storms we saw this morning. We lucked out with this morning round, where it mainly produced some large hail and not much else, storms stayed elevated. When these storms get surface-based, you can have major damage. And we may very well deal with that later this afternoon and evening. The warmer and more unstable the air gets throughout the day, the worse the afternoon/evening event is likely to be.

6:41 - But this morning's Tornado Watch is now officially cancelled for all of us. So I'm logging off and saving energy for the afternoon round.

That brown shading you see for so many counties is just a Wind Advisory.
