Calmer Weather with Fewer Rain Chances but Some Ups and Downs in Temperature

St. Patrick's Day (High 59, Low 33): Sunny and breezy. Being pinched is possible for people not wearing green.

Tuesday (High 72, Low 37): Sunny. Still breezy.

Wednesday (High 73, Low 46): Partly cloudy and breezy during the day. Rain showers are likely at night with a few isolated thunderstorms possible as well.

Thursday (High 52, Low 38): Mostly sunny.

Friday (High 61, Low 30): Sunny.

Saturday (High 69, Low 42): Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of showers/thunderstorms.

Sunday (High 72, Low 45): Partly to mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers/thunderstorms.

Skies ranged from partly cloudy to overcast in the TN Valley today. The High in Cullman was 63, and our current temperature at 10:48 PM CDT of 37 degrees is our Low so far. We've got about another hour to see if we get any colder for the day. The dewpoint is currently 36 degrees, making the relative humidity 93%. Winds are calm now, though most of today featured a Northwest breeze with gusts up to the 20-25 mile per hour range. The pressure is 30.09 inches and rising. Visibility is 10 miles.

That was a fairly significant severe weather event we just had, peaking around here yesterday. The death toll is reported to be in the 30's nationwide, and I heard of two confirmed deaths in Alabama. Between Friday and Saturday, we had a total of 87 tornadoes reported in the country.

Locally the surveys for the tornadoes that affected Cullman and Walker Counties won't be done until tomorrow. It sure did look rough at Sipsey.

They have not been able to publish details of the surveys yet, but the National Weather Service in Birmingham found in looking at the damage in South Central Alabama, that there were two E/F-0's, two E/F-1's, two E/F-2's, and one E/F-3 tornado in their counties of responsibility. Oddly enough, the one they had to take shelter for last night, that looked so scary on radar, only did the F-1 damage.

And we'll know more tomorrow. Sometimes it takes several days to fully complete storm surveys, especially for a high-end event like this one was. There was a lot of tornado damage back in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri from this event too.

We've still got some rivers at flood stage locally.

That front and all its rain and storms have moved to the Atlantic Coast today/tonight.

And our forecast this time is much calmer.

We're going to have high pressure moving back through the region behind this front. We'll be sunny tomorrow with a High of about 59-60, morning Low about 32-33. And we'll stay breezy, wind gusts up to 10-15 mph from the North/Northwest.

Then Tuesday we'll see a High about 71-73, Low about 36-38, another sunny day with a breeze but shifting back to the Southwest.

We do have a front coming at us Wednesday, but the chance of rain during the day is minimal, mainly increasing clouds. Then rain showers will be likely at night. Look for a High in the lower 70's, Low in the mid-to-upper-40's.

Then behind the front, we're mostly sunny again on Thursday but another cold snap, High only in the lower 50's and Low in the upper 30's, near 40.

Friday looks sunny with High pressure strongly in place. High temperature should be near 60 or so, Low near 30.

Then we have another front coming at us next weekend.

Saturday it only looks close enough to bring us a minimal 20% chance of rain, really same for Sunday. High temperature Saturday should get up to near 70, Low up into the lower 40's. Then Sunday more like lower 70's and mid-40's.

Then if we wanted to speculate beyond that, Monday of next week looks like we could see a 40% chance of rain with a High in the mid/upper 60's and a Low in upper 40's or close to 50. Then plenty of sunshine again that Tuesday with a High in the lower 60's, Low in the lower 40's. Clear skies continuing into Wednesday with a High in mid-60's and Low around 40 or so.

But not putting days 8-10 into an official forecast. Just looking at trends.

Rainfall totals for this seven-day period should average a quarter-inch or less.
