NOTES:
We did get some snow accumulation this past Wednesday morning around North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee.
The National Weather Service in Huntsville is doing a SKYWARN class in Athens this coming Tuesday evening. The Birmingham and Nashville offices are doing online classes as well. Nashville is also holding Severe Weather Awareness Day at Trevecca Nazarene University tomorrow.
Here is a look back at the damaging wind event of February 15 this past weekend, an event with also spun up a few tornadoes in the region.
Let's all take a moment to salute the people who exposed the corruption in the Hanceville Police Department and are taking steps to try to make things right.
DISCUSSION:
Peeking up farther North to our neighbors in the TN Valley, Huntsville had a few more clouds around today than the other places I just mentioned; their High was 42, and the Low was 15. Nashville saw a High of 36 and a Low of 12. And again, a few more clouds up that way to mix with the sunny skies . . . it was bitterly cold for all of us around here.
We've got a strong high pressure system moving through the Mid-South/Tennessee Valley region. Upper-level winds are zonal from the West. Have to go down to the Gulf Coast to find much in the way of rain, or the GUFF as some folks might call it down there in Louisiana, where we've got most of the rain right now. And even that's light, a lot of it over the waters rather than on land.
High pressure will stay in place tomorrow, and we'll see a High of about 48-50, Low of about 21-23 range. Then Sunday we stay sunny, High in lower 50's, Low in lower 20's. Monday temperatures continue to moderate as the high pressure moves off to the East and we get a little change in the winds, High near 60, Low near 30.
The trend continues on Tuesday with the High getting into the upper 60's, close to 70, the Low near 40. Basically the same for Wednesday.
We actually get a cold front between Wednesday and Thursday, looks like it will pass Wednesday night. Will forecast a 20% chance of showers for Thursday with a High in the upper 50's, Low in the lower 40's.
We actually get a cold front between Wednesday and Thursday, looks like it will pass Wednesday night. Will forecast a 20% chance of showers for Thursday with a High in the upper 50's, Low in the lower 40's.
Then high pressure builds in from East Texas on Friday of next week. So we'll be sunny again, looks like a High near 60, Low in the lower 30's.
But our high-impact weather is over for a while. Things have been busy lately, but this forecast looks pretty calm. Rainfall totals will probably stay under a tenth of an inch for most folks in Alabama and under a quarter-inch for our neighbors across the Tennessee border.
