Quick Forecast Update

Lacking the time for a full, proper forecast discussion tonight . . . here are the high points:

We probably are not getting any snow in North Alabama, the northern third, tomorrow, after all. Most of the snow probably stays South of Birmingham actually. If somebody up here did see an isolated snow shower, it'd probably be light, with little to no accumulation. Having said that, anything that were to make it to the ground wouldn't melt in these temperatures. We'll have a High near 30, Low near 15, partly to mostly cloudy skies. And it's going to be breezy, making it feel closer to single digits at times. And again, it's that kind of weather where you need to protect people, pets, plants, pipes . . . and practice heat safety.

So that's the deal for tomorrow. I know the model guidance has not been great and consistent with this system, sometimes that happens. But as the event is knocking on our door, it looks like about the Northern half of Alabama is unlikely to get much, if any, snow. And especially the Northern third is probably going to be in the clear. So that's the core of the people who read this - in Cullman, Walker, and Winston Counties.

Wednesday looks sunny with the High getting up to about 36-37 and the Low about 9-10 degrees. That's for Cullman. Places like Huntsville, the Shoals, into Tennessee may not break above freezing until Thursday. But around Cullman, Oneonta, Jasper, Double Springs . . . should get above freezing on Wednesday. Not expecting a snowpack from Tuesday's weather, like was a concern a few days ago.

Thursday and Friday look mostly sunny with a High in the lower 40's and a Low near 20. We actually get a clipper system between these two days, but it looks like a dry one. A few places could see snow flurries overnight, but even if so, accumulations are not anticipated in North Alabama or Southern Middle Tennessee. For the most part, this one is looking dry.

Sunny skies on Saturday behind that front, high pressure in place for one day . . . High near 50, Low in the lower 20's.

Sunday we'll have some clouds come back with at least isolated rain possible, about a 20-30% chance of rain, High near 50, Low near 30.

And then Monday, a week from today, rain chances closer to 40%, which still means scattered rain across the area, partly to mostly cloudy skies, High in the lower 50's and a Low well up into the 30's, maybe even back into upper 30's.

So the bitter cold doesn't last forever. Get through tomorrow night, and relief is in sight.

I didn't mean to rhyme that.

The new episode of Weatherbrains is out, and it looks like James Spann and Bill Murray invited Harold Brooks on there to talk about the death of Chuck Doswell. And I think they also discussed all the moronic layoffs of meteorologists lately by corporate dingbats at various broadcast companies across the country. Haven't seen the whole thing yet, but it seems like it's one well worth watching or listening to. I believe the previous week's talked about one of those really destructive hurricanes that hit this past summer, so would also be a really good one, can't remember if it was Hurricane Helene or one of the others. We had two or three in a row there that had significant impacts.

Warm wishes, thanks for reading . . .
