NOTES:
Our drought conditions have recently improved.
NOAA and United Airlines have teamed up to measure pollutants with high-tech flight instruments.
And here is a look at rip currents in case you're headed to the beach.
It was a variably cloudy day in the Tennessee Valley. And we did have scattered showers and storms at times. The High in Cullman was 90 after a morning Low of 72. Jasper had a High of 93 and Low of 70. Haleyville had a High of 92 and Low of 73. Huntsville saw a High of 90, Low of 74. And Nashville had a 89 and Low of 80 today.
We have a weak cold front pushing through Northwest Alabama and Tennessee tonight. I'm writing this at nearly Midnight, so we are nearly into Saturday morning.
Storms earlier today brought down a lot of trees and power lines in North and Central Alabama. Some other states also had damaging thunderstorm winds, saw an injury in Virginia where an awning of a camper blew loose and hit a woman in the head.
This frontal boundary and the high pressure behind it is going to bring us some drier weather for at least a few days.
Tonight's Low should be about 70 or 69, then the High for Saturday about 88-89, mostly sunny skies. Could see some patchy fog later tonight and this morning.
Looks like sunny skies Sunday with a High of about 90, Low about 69-70.
Monday also looks clear with a High in the lower 90's, Low near 70.
And it looks like we'll be on the dry side of that tropical storm too.
So Tuesday again, sunshine, High in the lower 90's, Low 70 or so.
Looks like we'll make it to the mid-90's Wednesday for the High, Low in lower 70's. Little to no rain chances showing up.
Starting Thursday it looks like we get into more of a troughing pattern at 500 millibars/18,000 feet.
So forecasting a High back in the lower 90's, a Low near 70.
Basically the same for Friday, not really seeing a return of rain chances.
If you want to look into the land of tea leaves, we might see isolated rain come back next weekend or by Monday of the following week. Looks like Highs in the lower 90's then.
The fourth tropical depression of the season is moving through Cuba and is expected to reach tropical storm strength soon and then affect the Florida Peninsula Saturday night into Sunday. Tropical storm watches and even a Tropical Storm Warning are up there. While these do not carry the major impacts of a hurricane, there are still hazards - mainly flash flooding issues, damaging winds possible, an isolated tornado possible, and dangerous rip current conditions.
If we see any rain over the next seven days, it's not going to be much.
Personal note: I have had a death in my extended family, a suicide. I'm not sure how much I'll be posting here for a while. And really interest in this site has dwindled to the point I'm probably not going to renew the domain name this year. I mainly just posted this because I noticed the tropical system developing some and aiming for Southern Florida.
