At 4 PM skies are partly cloudy in Cullman. The temperature is 91.4 degrees. The dewpoint is 75.2 degrees, making the relative humidity 59%. The heat index is 103 degrees. Winds are calm. The pressure is 30.07 inches and falling slowly at the moment. Looks like our High was 93 today, or technically 93.2, the Low 73.4 this morning.
We are under a heat advisory through tomorrow.
Rain has been scarce today as we remain under the influence of high pressure mainly. Georgia has had some showers and storms.
Quite a few storms yesterday produced wind damage in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, and even nearby states like the Carolinas. Today there have only been a couple of isolated damaging wind reports in Georgia.
This time of year, when we get damaging winds in thunderstorms, they usually take down trees and power lines. But that is a big deal to the people directly affected. Or it can be.
I only noticed one injury from yesterday's storms, where someone in Pulaski, Kentucky was injured by a falling tree.
It looks like we will be staying hot and humid around here and mostly rain-free for the near future.
The high pressure ridge looks strong tomorrow, and will forecast mostly sunny skies, rain chances too low to even bother about (less than 20%), High of about 96 or 97, but of course the humidity will make it feel over 105 degrees at times, is why we have the Heat Advisory. People can get sick faster than you'd think if they stay in that kind of heat, hottest parts of the day. Low should be about 74-75.
Will bring back a minimal 20% of rain Friday with a High near 95, Low near 75.
Then Saturday and Sunday we have a weak front trying to move through. And I think it will. So bump Saturday's rain chance up to 30% with a High only in the lower 90's, Low in lower 70's. And then for Sunday will remove the rain chances altogether, mostly sunny skies, High near 90, Low near 70.
The ridge of high pressure will start to build back into the region after that. Highs should be in lower 90's, Lows in lower 70's, but by Wednesday we will likely see mid-90's again. Will keep rain chance out for Monday but bring back minimal chances starting Tuesday.
A tropical wave over the Lesser Antilles is producing a broad area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. As it moves toward the Bahamas and then Cuba over about the next week, some development into a tropical cyclone is possible. Just something to still keep an eye on. But here we are at midweek, and the development we were concerned with over the weekend has not happened yet. I guess everyone is extra vigilant because of what happened with Hurricane Beryl crazy-early in the season.
And most of us are going to see little or no rain for this forecast period. Welcome to . . . well we're nearly into August, so welcome to August in North Alabama. Lots of you already know what it's all about.
And I think I'll post a few more times into August, and then if nobody is interested in this blog anymore, going to just let it die a natural death. Because it takes too much energy if it's not a two-way street.
