Until MIDNIGHT.
The current state of tornado watches across the map is kind of a mess. But this is the latest one. And the squall line is approaching Northwest Alabama, broken line of severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The threat goes until about Midnight.
Of course we have had confirmed tornadoes in Tennessee already today.
4:10 PM - And there is a confirmed tornado coming for Nashville, mainly the Northern part. Tuning into WKRN's coverage, always seen them do a good job. Hopefully everyone in the path can get off the roads and into a storm shelter, basement, or a small central room on the lowest floor of a sturdy house, away from windows. If you have time, get up under something sturdy and cover your head in case of any falling or flying debris. This is a Particularly Dangerous Situation.
Ok I'm actually having better luck with the WSMV stream this time. Every tornado is important, but there are a lot of people in Nashville, and they had it rough a few years ago with a tornado. Hope everybody stays safe. I was just up there recent with some family. Looks like it's going to affect the Northern part more, but if you're anywhere in that polygon, please take this very seriously and stay sheltered until sure the danger is over.
This is a confirmed tornado that has done damage and continues to show a debris ball. Hope nobody tries to ride this out in a mobile home or gets caught driving during it. If you have a sturdy building to get in - small room, lowest floor, near the center, away from windows, cover your head if you can, shield body from potential debris. If you have a storm shelter nearby, of course go there as your best choice.
4:30 PM - Taking the wider view, there is another confirmed tornado further North toward the Kentucky state line. And there are numerous severe thunderstorms coming from Mississippi as a broken squall line continues to form. One of those storms has prompted a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that includes Wayne County, TN. So there too, it would be a good idea to take shelter until these storms pass. Even without a tornado, the threat for damaging winds can be a threat to life and property.
4:33 - And gosh, people in Nashville, don't mess around with this tornado. If you are not already in your safe place, go there now.
4:43 - The tornado appears to be passing North of downtown Nashville, but still, this is a case where you respect the polygon and remember there is always a margin for error with radar. In the path of either of these tornado-producing supercells up in Tennessee, hope people are in shelter. These are dangerous.
4:50 - While they have a live cam of the tornado North of Nashville, closer to home, we have a severe thunderstorm warning for Lauderdale County and clipping Northwest Colbert County in Alabama.
4:53 - Updated track for the confirmed tornado.
5:06 PM - Next in line is Gallatin. This is being called a Tornado Emergency with a tornado capable of catastrophic level damage. The Nashville office doesn't use that kind of language often. Please get to a storm shelter or the underground part of a basement if possible ahead of this. Or at least get to a small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy house - NOT a mobile home.
5:09 - And the Storm Prediction Center is closely watching our main Tornado Watch that extends down into North Alabama. The storm mode is mixed, with supercells and line segments trying to form. Especially where we see any supercells, the tornado threat is enhanced. We've seen how bad it can get in Tennessee. We hope things don't get that bad down this way, but we have to play it safe in case even one spot were to get a tornado. We just have to take it seriously and err on the side of caution with this. Severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes are possible tonight in and close to this watch area. Have to especially watch for supercells trying to fire up along the AL/TN state line next few hours.
5:25 - And that tornado continues its trek of terror through Tennessee. Seriously everyone in the path of this has to be sheltered.
So far have heard of no deaths with the tornadoes today, so maybe the warning process worked, people got to safe enough places. I know there has been a lot of damage, some injuries, people had to be rescued . . .
5:31 - The only warning in our vicinity right now is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Wayne County, TN. Another warning further North that will clip the northern part of the town of Columbia. That storm in Colbert County, AL is strong but believed to be under severe limits.
